Citizen Men's Promaster 200 Meter Professional Diver Watch #AJ0100-02E

This watch had been in my cart for about six months as I was waiting for a promotion or sale that would offer a lower price. Wow, the price jumped from $129.00 to $150.00 for no clear reason. In addition Amazon said shipping could be delayed for up to eight weeks! Talk about sticker price shock. The issue now is that the next model up eco-drive model good to 300 meters depth for $165.00 looks like a steal. The decision is a personal one and I went with the Promaster 200 simply for its rugged good looks and high customer ratings. The watch rubber strap is robust but comfortable and will accomodate a large wrist. The five year warranty is a plus, the second hand actually lands on each tick mark with perfect alignment. This particular model seems to have been around for many years with virtually no changes which is a plus in my opion. I agree that some dive watches take on a cartoon appearance by being overly large. One surprise is that the watch is advertised by Citizen as being brushed stainless steel which suggests a matt finish. Be warned that the watch is highly polished and shiny like a chrome plated braclet. I can live with that but I was hoping for the matt finish common to military and sport watches. I am still pleased with the watch because of its proven accuracy, quality and functional simplicity. I actually purchased the watch from another online vendor to get immediate delivery but I now see that Amazon has stock available now rather than the idicated eight weeks. Bottom line: a great watch but for a few dollars more you can move up to the eco-drive model which eliminates the issue of battery replacement.

Update 2/5/09: Don't worry about the issue of luminescence of the dial markers, they are quite bright at night and stay bright through the night. I realize now that it was the Citizen watch company not Amazon that jacked the msrp up to $250 which forced Amazon to raise their already discounted price as did every other online company did. In hindsight I suspect the quality of the Promaster 200 and the associated costs of producing it have risen and it speaks well for the watch that is still popular and in demand even at the higher price. This is a fantastic set that I purchased for my boyfriend about a year ago, and he is still really happy with it. This Timex watch is a real bargain, but it does have a very large works, which is about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Clearly, this is too large for a smaller wrist, and accordingly not truly unisex.
The watch itself was easy to set up and has a large readable display. However, the function buttons are labeled in red against a gray background and are difficult to read. The start/stop, indiglo, mode, and set buttons are in the same locations on the dial as my previous Timex Ironman watch, so the functions were familiar to me.

This one seems just as good no problems syncing with the atomic clock it does it every night. Seems to charge as advertised. All the functions are very easy to adjust on the fly, I have big (as in fat) fingers and sometimes manipulating small controls poses a problem. Not so in this instance. If you are looking for a cheap watch that looks decent, seems fairly durable and has some basic features then this is a decent watch. Here's a couple initial annoyances I noticed though: the stopwatch will only measure in minutes and seconds (no tenths or hundreds of a second) and inexplicably keeps a running time from when you start the stopwatch that in fact has 100s of a second. You just can't stop the running time only reset it back to 0. There is no lap feature either. Also the various buttons on the watch turn on/off features when you are just in view mode, so it seems like you could easily turn something off or on. First, I am Mike, Judy'husband, and I purchased the Orient Mens Black Mako in Jan.2009. I have been 100% satisfied with the Orient Divers Watch in the time I've had it. I live in Florida in the winter and have used it in swimming and snorkeling. It is extremely comfortable to wear outside and in the water. The band is very flexible and soft and adjusts to any size wrist. The face is big and easy to read in the water and the hands, numbers, and markings light up very nicely in the dark.
The day, date, and time are very easy to set. It has kept perfect time since day one. (Be aware that it is an automatic watch and if you take it off and put it down, it will stop running in about 3-4 days.) It is a great looking divers watch and I have received many compliments.
